In 1786, William Duesbury II took charge of the factory with the aim of making the Derby China Works the best in Europe. Improvements were made in glazes and decoration, this along with probably the most talented group of ceramic artists ever assembled resulted in a tremendous variety of objects all lavishly decorated. In 1797 William Duesbury died at the early age of 34, many of his potters and decorators left the factory which led to a decline in the fortunes of Crown Derby. In 1811 Robert Bloor took charge and restored the Derby porcelain reputation began to build a team of very fine painters and decorators. Many rich and elegant services were produced at this time and shape tended to be larger and more flamboyant.
The plate is in excellent antique condition with no sign of damage, there is very fine crazing under the glaze.
There are spots of fine kiln dust on the back, the gold and the pattern are still bright.
Considering its age this piece is in truly excellent condition.
"The picture has "bright areas" which are reflections, not damage"
